Tune Up your CarIf you’re a motoring enthusiast, a new piece of kit for your much-loved vehicle is difficult to resist – however, unless you’re careful it could invalidate your car insurance claims.

In January this year, Ford’s RS tuning firm announced it had teamed up with Mountune Performance to offer two new exciting pieces of kit for the Fiesta ST.

The Stage 1 kit (priced at £1,435 plus fitting) includes an engine tweak to produce 162bhp, a new air-induction and exhaust. Stage 2 meanwhile (priced at £1,838 plus fitting) includes the same upgrades but takes the power to 182bhp and includes new camshafts and valve springs.

The only downside is that on top of the price for the kit, these optional extras could bump up the price of your car insurance.

Your chances of gaining cheap car insurance if your car has ‘go-faster stripes’ are greatly reduced because insurers look unfavourably on vehicle modifications seeing them as a hallmark of ‘boy racers’ rather than safe and considerate drivers.

The solution is not to keep your insurer out of the loop, either. If you’ve made a modification to your car and not informed your insurer, then, should an accident occur, your claim could be invalidated.

Insurers demand honesty – your premiums are based on risk factors such as where you live, your driving record and the type of car you drive.

Altering your car alters your insurance. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sit on an inflated quote.

By shopping around for cheap car insurance using a car insurance comparison tool you can make significant savings. So if, after modifications, you’re not happy with what your insurer offers, look for a better deal. Search by manufacturer, such as Ford car insurance, and your savings could be enough to afford a new piece of kit!

2008 Mazda6
Proudly taking centre stage at the Mazda stand this year was the all-new Mazda6 mid-sized sedan.

The new Mazda6 is the second Mazda new generation product to evolve to the next stage, further deepening the emotional connection between man and machine - Mazda calls it "Kizuna"

Mazda Australia also sprung a massive surprise by unveiling a concept version of the Mazda3 MPS hot-hatch in the form of the Mazda3 MPS Extreme.

Tuned in-house by Mazda's Australia Motorsport manager Allan Horsley, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has been re-programmed to increase the 2.3-litre DISI turbo engine's power to 210 kW at 5300 rpm and 425 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm.

Mazda3 MPS Extreme
The Mazda3 MPS Extreme is equipped with a free-flowing two-inch exhaust system, a sports muffler and a 25 mm lower suspension tuned by Murray Coote.

Mazda3 MPS Extreme sits on 19-inch BBS Motorsport rims with Dunlop Sports (225/35ZR19) complete with a MPS monogram on the wheel centerpiece.

Maserati has officially revealed its performance-oriented GranTurismo S, following the leak of two images online. The GranTurismo debuted a year earlier at the European show, so it seems fitting this sportier variant will break cover at the same venue.

The GranTurismo S is powered by a 4.7 liter V8 in place of the regular GT's 4.2 liter unit. Output is 440 horsepower — a nice boost from the standard 405 horses.

An advanced MC-Shift dual-clutch transmission will replace the ZF six-speed automatic.

New high-power Brembo brakes will improve stopping distance. The system features front brake discs made with dual-cast technology — a dual casting of cast iron and aluminum, paired with aluminum mono-bloc 6-piston brake calipers

The exterior has some subtle visual enhancements, and the interior is upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather and Alcantara for increased luxury.

Hyundai Veloster Concept

Making its debut at the Seoul Motor Show back in April this year, the Hyundai Veloster Concept made its way down under for the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

Styled at Hyundai's Design and Technical Center at Namyang, the Veloster (codenamed HND-3) coupe is the third in a series of daring concept cars to be developed by the central styling studio in Korea. The Veloster name, a compound of velocity and roadster evokes the sporty characteristics of a classic two-plus-two. A panoramic glass roof and other futuristic styling cues help project a high-tech image.

Designed to cater to the tastes of the Y-generation, Veloster combines simple, iconic design with good value and robust construction.

Technical Specifications:

With as many soccer moms as you see driving tank-like SUVs down the road, you’d think picking a girl-SUV would have been easier than I found it to be. Since Marge Simpson’s Canyonero isn’t a real car, I picked the small SUV that I’ve never known to have been bought by a guy for himself (including the one I looked to buy - not for myself): The Toyota RAV4. Just look at it. If it were smaller, you could totally picture it in a woman’s closet, couldn’t you?

When the Mazda Miata was introduced in 1989 as a 1990 model, it was meant to herald the second coming of convertible sports cars that were small, handled great, and were sparse on conveniences. Sports car guys were giddy, especially the editors at car magazines like Car and Driver and Road and Track, who saw the Miata as a return to cars like the Lotus Elan and the MGB of the mid 1900s. Unfortunately, they were really cute and affordable and became the epitome of a top-down-at-the-mall girl car. The Miata is pretty far down the list due to a seriously fanatic group of supporters at places like Miata.net, a pretty hardcore racing series, and the awesomely badass Monster Miata conversions.

Despite what it looks like, this is not an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

Instead, it’s a Ford Mustang with one of the best body replica kits I’ve ever seen.

Made by Exclusive Motor Cars, the replication process includes stretching the wheelbase, widening the track, lowering the ride height, adding 34 extra body panels to the outside, custom upholstering the inside, and then adding the small details like the lights, emblems and grills to get things just right.

What you’re left with after all of that is over is a car that is almost indistinguishable from the real thing. (Except for the price.) They even include a Spy Package that adds on grille-mounted rocket launchers and hood-mounted machine guns for extra fun. (Apparently, “Even the original James Bond car from Die Another Day was equipted with Mustang running gear.”)

The Hummer HX concept is one truck that I would love to see make it to the showroom floor without getting smoothed over by the penny pinchers at GM.

Designed to be a Jeep Wrangler competitor, the HX features a 3.6-liter SIDI E85 FlexFuel engine, four wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a modular roof that can be opened convertible style.

Considering the fact that the styling isn’t too far off when compared to the current H2 and H3, I can only hope that this is a nearly-there preview of the H4 to come.

New Peugeot 308 family hatchback hits UK dealers in time for September rush
By Oliver Marriage September 2007

When it comes to competing for a slice of the UK family car market, there are no half measures. And that is exactly why Peugeot has pulled out all the stops to get its new challenger here in record time.Only last week we carried a world first drive of the new 308, and now we’ve tried a right-hand-drive model in Britain. How come it’s here so soon?

You don’t need us to tell you that September is a key month for new car sales, and Peugeot didn’t want to miss out on a large chunk of business, so bosses decided to bring production of right-hookers forward.

The new family hatchback is the first Peugeot of the ‘8’ generation, and while it doesn’t represent a massive departure from the 307, it’s reasonably attractive, with a redefined front end and curvier shape at the rear. As with Mercedes’ latest C-Class, the nose and tail get different treatments dep-ending on which model you go for.

Under the skin, the 308 uses the same platform as its predecessor, so the car’s overall dimensions haven’t changed a great deal. In fact, boot space has risen by only seven litres and rear legroom remains modest.

Yet the Peugeot feels deceptively large inside – and that’s all thanks to the Cielo glass roof, a feature that’s standard on the top two of the five trim levels and optional on the rest.

The French firm desperately wanted to enhance interior quality on its fam-ily hatchback, and has succeeded. The one-piece dash moulding, which has five chrome-ringed air vents set into it, looks and feels great, and is better designed and more tactile than the effort in the 307. There are a couple of black marks against the newcomer, though: the right-hand-drive version has no footrest for the driver’s clutch leg, while the glovebox is tiny.

Buyers have six engines to choose from. We drove the top-of-the-range 136bhp 2.0 HDi, which is currently the only model to feature a six-speed gearbox. The diesel engine is refined, but could have done with being updated, because it lacks real grunt, with the power tailing off too early in the rev range. It doesn’t help that, despite the modest size gains, the 308 tips the scales by at least an additional 60kg across the board.

Still, that extra weight has not dented the car’s road manners too badly. While it’s far from sporty, the Peugeot is very capable, with a fine balance of ride quality and handling, plus excellent cruising ability.

It’s a strong vehicle, too, and has already earned itself a five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. Prices start at £12,595 for the five-door 308, with three-door versions costing £600 less when they arrive here in December.

RIVAL: VW GOLF 2.0 TDI GT

While it’s not as well equipped, the equivalent Golf – the 2.0 TDI GT Sport – is considerably cheaper than the Peugeot, at £18,887. We still think the VW has the edge for build quality, too, and it’s a great car to own, thanks in no small part to its superb resale values. But the diesel engine isn’t the smoothest around and the car doesn’t have the 308’s polished road manners.

Renault Laguna Coupe picture

it’s the super-coupé that’s got added Va Va Voom! And it proves that Renault is swapping safe for sexy.

Reaching UK dealers at the end of next year, the sensational new Laguna Coupé shows the French brand is returning to flamboyant design – building on the legacy of the Avantime MPV and the luxury Vel Satis.

However, unlike those models, it will be no sales flop. The newcomer is set to mark the revival of the affordable coupé, and will join the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco and the forthcoming Hyundai Coupé in a market sector where style and head-turning looks don’t have to come at a huge price. Tipped to cost around £20,000 when it arrives in the UK in December 2008, the two-door is certain to sell like hot croissants – so we caught up with it at Renault’s test track in northern France to see what buyers can expect.

Revealed at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the Coupé looks every bit as amazing on the road as it did on the stand. It’s part of Renault’s plan to challenge the likes of BMW and Audi, and bosses know that improving reliability and quality alone isn’t enough – the car needs style, too.

To this end, the Coupé is everything its hatch brother isn’t: daring, dynamic and desirable, with shades of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage from the rear. You could park it next to a BMW 3-Series Coupé and plenty of people would prefer the Renault on looks. Stephane Janin, the man in charge of Renault’s concept car design, is pleased with the results.

He told us: “We wanted to produce a car that people would desire and want to buy. The Coupé is a sexy model with a lot of drama that should appeal to a much wider audience.”

Renault Laguna Coupe picture Renault Laguna Coupe picture2 Renault Laguna Coupe picture3 Renault Laguna Coupe picture4 Renault Laguna Coupe picture5

At the front, piercing headlights stretch back into the bonnet. They’re accompanied by two slim-line LED foglamps that light up the ground-hugging grille. The side profile is particularly striking, and is distinguished by its steeply raked roofline and shallow windows, which give the newcomer a racy and athletic stance.

Sadly, the show car’s exotic scissor doors are too costly to put into production, while the glamorous cabin – with its minimalist layout, intricate dials and spade-shaped auto selector – will be replaced by an upmarket version of the standard Laguna design.

In fact, the interior will be a real strength – high on quality and comfort – and our drive showed Renault has got the basics right. The driving position is low, the seats hug you and small glass areas provide a cocooned feel.

Although we weren’t able to put the priceless show car fully to the test, the signs look good, with finished versions set to get the same four-wheel steering as the GT hatch, plus a sporty suspension set-up.

There will also be plenty of engine choices. Driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic box will be a 168bhp 2.0-litre petrol turbo or a 2.0 dCi turbodiesel. Flagship cars get a powerful new 3.5-litre petrol V6 shared with the Coupé’s Nissan 350Z stablemate or Renault’s fresh 180bhp 3.0 V6 diesel. The latter combines a 0-60mph time of seven seconds with economy of around 45mpg. Add it all up and, if bosses get the price right, they’ll have a winner on their hands.

Rival: Volkswagen SciroccoReviving one of VW’s most famous badges, the reborn Scirocco takes a new approach with a hatch body and radical styling. It promises a sporty driving experience – thanks to underpinnings shared with the latest Golf GTI – and is the car the Laguna Coupé has to beat.

FIRST OPINION
If you were disappointed by the styling of the brand new Laguna, then the Coupé version will blow you away. Renault has pulled out all the stops with the latest addition to its line-up. It’s fantastic to look at, with a sleek and dramatic shape that demonstrates French flair at its very best. We have no doubt that the newcomer will turn heads when it arrives here in December next year – and with a winning range of engines plus a hi-tech chassis, it should drive as well as it looks. We can’t wait!

Acura MD-X Concept_thumb

The Acura “MD-X Concept” luxury performance SUV made its world debut today at the 2006 New York International Auto Show featuring bold, sleek exterior styling indicative of the next generation MDX production model.

“Every aspect of the MD-X Concept design conveys performance while still retaining SUV functionality,” said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations. “The styling signifies a bold direction for the next generation MDX, both in appearance and substance.”

The MD-X Concept is fashioned as a true driver’s SUV, with its low, wide stance and aggressive design. Its sleek surface lines are modeled after a high-powered megayacht.

Acura MDX Concept_thumb2

The MD-X Concept features a wider track and longer wheelbase that give the vehicle a sportier, performance look. The profile of the concept reveals a refined SUV with smooth, chiseled lines and an elegant form. A dominant character line runs from the front quarter panel to the rear, evoking the feeling of forward movement. The sharply raked D-pillar creates a stealth, aerodynamic appearance while still retaining the third row seating functionality and cargo carrying capability of the current generation MDX.

The Concept sits low to the ground despite the large 20-inch five-spoke custom alloy wheels, while the large wheel arches and flares add to the Concept’s muscular appearance. The sleek cabin features flush mounted windshield glass, which improves aerodynamics while adding to the MD-X Concept’s smooth and flowing design.

“The smooth lines and sleek shape of the MD-X Concept challenge the conventions of SUV design,” said Ricky Hsu, chief designer for the MD-X Concept. “Our goal was to create the image of a sports sedan while maintaining generous interior volume and utility of a SUV.”

Acura MDX Concept_thumb21

The front hood is accented with pronounced character lines culminating in an aggressive five-sided grille, which gives the MD-X its bold presence. The commanding front grille features a dominant center bar running through a solid aluminum face. The narrow, Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights appear to grow out of the massive grille, giving the overall front-end a strong, distinct look.

“The front end of the MD-X Concept communicates power and prestige,” explains Hsu. “We want drivers to do a double-take when the vehicle passes them on the road.”

In the rear, the MD-X Concept has an integrated rear hatch, which sits flush against the bumper to create a smooth, clean appearance. LED taillights wrap around the cargo hatch adding to the vehicles wide and low appearance. A rear spoiler improves aerodynamics and the integrated dual exhaust pipes add to the SUV’s sporty style.

The next generation MDX production model will be available this fall, bringing a whole new level of performance and sophistication to the Acura light truck lineup. Track-tuned at the famed Nurburging in Germany, the all-new MDX will feature outstanding performance and handling. Equipped with a powerful, class leading V6 engine and coupled with Acura’s exclusive Super Handling All -Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)), the next generation MDX will re-invent the luxury SUV segment just as it did when it first debuted.

Acura Mercury Mariner picture

Ford today announced the 2008 Mercury Mariner, which will go on sale in early 2007. The crossover features a revised exterior and an all-new interior. Ford says it has also improved handling, added a slew of new safety features (curtain air bags and AdvanceTrac with RSC), and made the ride quieter Chassis upgrades and new Electric Power Steering (EPS) are designed to give the Mariner car-like ride and handling.

"The 2008 Mariner is the first product to truly deliver 100 percent of the design DNA for Mercury as a brand" says Kim Irwin, Mercury brand manager. "It looks good and drives well, it has sophisticated style, and it's not like anything else out there."

The standard engine is a 2.3-liter, 16-valve Duratec 23 four-cylinder that produces 153 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 152 lb.-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. An optional 3.0-liter, 24-valve V6 Duratec 30 engine produces 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 193 lb.-ft of torque at 4,850 rpm. Both engines come with a standard four-speed-automatic transaxle.

On the outside, the 2008 Mariner’s all-new sheet metal includes significant design changes to the front/rear fascias, liftgate, headlamps and taillamps, a raised beltline, new hood and B-pillar blackout molding. Inside, Satin Pewter finishes and chrome accents give the vehicle an upscale look. There are new seats, door trim panels, A- and B-pillar trims, center console and a new floor-mounted shifter. The seats are monochromatic or two-tone with Alcantara Suede inserts.

Side glass thickness has increased from 3.8 to 4.7 mm and helps prevent outside noise from entering the passenger cabin. On V6-equipped models, engineers moved the alternator from the right to left side of the engine. Because the engine is transversely mounted, the noise is now located farther away from the passenger cabin. A new, quieter cooling fan reduces idle noise.

All-wheel drive models have a new rear differential that is quieter and smoother.New windshield molding and low profile wipers help improve airflow around the vehicle and reduce wind noise.Redesigned recessed channels on top of Mariner are staggered and shorter to reduce boom as air flows over the top.Outside mirrors are larger and careful attention was given to their design to minimize wind noise.

Additional sound deadening material has been added throughout the vehicle to reduce noise throughout the interior.

Mariner Hybrid continues to be a "full" hybrid. This means that, unlike other "mild" hybrid vehicles, Mariner Hybrid can run on 100 percent electric power up to about 30 mph, maximizing in-city fuel economy. Mariner Hybrid automatically switches between pure electric power, pure gasoline engine power or combined operation of the two to maximize efficiency and performance.

toyota_a bat_concept_thumb

Toyota wants to add two more small vehicles to its American model lineup in response to rising fuel economy standards, said Jim Lentz, president of Toyota USA. He said a production version of the small A-BAT pickup concept, plus Europe's new Urban Cruiser were both under consideration.

Toyota is aiming for a 35 mpg fleetwide fuel economy average by 2020, Lentz told Automotive News in a recent interview.

The A-BAT pickup was shown in concept form at the Detroit auto show in January. Riding on a unibody platform, it features a four-foot bed, but overall storage space can grow to as much as eight feet when the midgate is folded down. Power comes from a four-cylinder gas-electric hybrid setup.

Unlike the A-BAT — which is just a concept car at this stage — the Urban Cruiser is already headed for production in Europe. If the mini-SUV looks familiar, it's because the Urban Cruiser is essentially a jacked-up version of the Scion xD. Whether there is enough of a difference between the Cruiser and the xD to warrant the sale of both models remains to be seen.

Lentz said either model could be badged as a Toyota or a Scion. "It doesn't matter," he said. "As long as we are keeping customers."

The 2008 Scion tC receives new styling with a new upper mesh grille, lattice lower grille, projector-type low beam headlights with black trim, and rear tail lights similar in style to the tC’s headlights with round combination lamps.

Chevrolet Trax picture

GM’s Opel marketing team in Europe is studying the market for a plan to enter the small SUV market. The new model will give Opel a rival against the Fiat Sedici and Suzuki SX4. Chevrolet is also expected to follow Opel’s move.

“There is a need for small SUVs and our marketing team has been working on this. First we need to develop a concept,” Opel Managing Director Hans Demant told Automotive News Europe.

Like the UAW releasing some GM rear-wheel drive vehicle development this weekend, Rudi Kennes, a senior official at Belgium’s ABVV union, said that the GM has already signed an agreement that a small SUV for two GM brands will go into production in the second half of 2010. Both models will be built in GM’s Antwerp, Belgium, factory.

Kennes added that the plant would produce about 120,000 units of the new model per year.

Analysts are saying that Chevrolet’s small SUV may be very close to the Trax concept we saw at the 2007 New York Auto Show in April. No word on if this small SUV is going to make it to the U.S. shores but we feel it may definitely pop-up on our roads after 2010.

hummer car picture

GM wants consumers to start looking at Hummers as trucks and SUVs that are built to do a job, instead of gas-guzzling SUVs made for the rich and hated by environmentalists everywhere. Ever since GM rolled out the Hummer H2, owners have complained of getting mean looks from their peers and finding their giant vehicles keyed in parking lots.

A survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates last year said SUV buyers are avoiding the Hummer brand more and more mostly because they believe they are gas-guzzling vehicles.

“Hummer has an image of being the big, ponderous vehicles,” says Jon Osborn, research director at J.D. Power. “Really, it gets about the same or as good gas mileage as several others. … The name Hummer connotes a much more gas-guzzling vehicle than really is on the road today.”

Hoping to get rid of some criticism, Hummer stopped production of its five-ton H1 vehicle and started offering the H2 and H3 making them lighter and a little more fuel-efficient. The EPA rates the Hummer H3 at 14mpg, comparable to the Chevrolet Suburban which gets 16mpg and is powered by the same 5.3 liter engine. Future Hummer commercials will now pitch a more ‘Built Ford Tough’ style campaign where GM will try to persuade buyers that a Hummer to can be a friendly vehicle.

Mark LaNeve, vice president of sales, service and marketing for GM says he’d love for consumers to begin thinking of the Hummer vehicles as tools to get a job done. “No one criticizes a bulldozer for its gas mileage. That’s because it’s built to do a job.”

Hummer also showed the HX concept at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The HX Concept is an open-air, two-door off-road vehicle along with a convertible body via a pair of removable panels. Power comes from an E85 FlexFuel 3.6L SIDI V6 that produces 204 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Just out of curiosity - do you guys think of Hummer as the first truck when you think of getting a tough job done or the first when you want to show off some bling-bling?

pagani zonda R picture

We've been waiting to see the production version of the Pagani Zonda R for about a year now. The track-only version of the Zonda was announced around this time last year and in July we got word that it was headed for production. We're clearly excited to be in the presence of a car boasting 750 horsepower, a bare naked carbon fiber body and a price of 1.2 million euro. Unfortunately, while we'll be in attendance early next month at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the Pagani Zonda R will not be.

Word has it that Pagani's intentionally delayed the development and official reveal of the Zonda R to focus on other projects, not the least of which is the car slated to replace the Zonda, internally known as the C9. The boutique exotic automaker originally claimed that it planned to sell only 10 examples of the Zonda R, but needed to sell all of them to cover the cost of the project. According to the source we linked, the last count was at six to eight buyers who had paid a deposit for the car. We're not sure if failing to meet the target number of buyers (if true) has derailed progress on the ultimate Zonda to some degree, but regardless, Pagani reportedly promises to provide more official specifications for the Zonda R, as well as photos, in the coming months. But for now, we've been stood up by the prettiest car at the show, and that hurts.

Mitsubishi will be using March’s Geneva Motor Show to showcase its hatchback concept, the Prototype-S.

mitsubishi_prototipe S_thumb

Based upon the new Lancer sedan, the concept could best be described as a hatchback version of Mitsubishi’s entry level sedan, albeit a very shapely, coupe-like hatch. With its sloping roofline, broad shouldered stance, and overall sporting demeanor, the car is for more attractive than the prototypical boxy station wagon. Still though, the concept proves to be more versatile than its sedan counterpart with its larger trunk space and sliding, folding rear seats.

Backing up the looks, the concept shares the motor and drivetrain with the Lancer Ralliart, namely a 240bhp turbo I-4, AWD with ACD, and Mitsubishi’s new twin clutch gearbox.

Though a only a concept, look for the production to remain true to the design much in the way the EVO did. The car itself is expected to account for 70% of the brand’s sakes in Europe, and 80% of their UK sales.

Our take? Though destined to be EU only at this point, expect Mitsubishi to follow the success of rival Subaru’s Impreza closely. Success may bring it to our shores, otherwise add it to the long list of cool cars we’ll never see.

Barracuda cars picture

We all get excited about the looks of a muscle car, but when we get down to how much fuel it needs for a 100 km trip then we get so very un-excited. Let’s consider cars would run on pure air, because I’m going to show you the Barracuda Concept by a Brazilian designer that if was to be built it would be based on the 300M and should be powered by a Hemi engine (probably the one from Dodge Challenger SRT8 that gets 425hp).

The concept specs say that the hood, spoilers and the side panels should all be made of carbon fiber, which makes it lighter than the Challenger and probably more aggressive. It’s looking very good but we may have to wait until the Barracuda becomes a real one.

Corvette ZR1 - thumbs

America has a SuperCar, or at least this is what Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper is saying (thinking) after showing to the public the new Corvette ZR1 at the Detroit Auto Show. Corvette is deep inside he blood of every American that needs speed and looks, but the we ZR1 is really business. It comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that sports 620 hp and a 823 NM (595 lb/ft) torque, being able to hit the 200mph speed, while the speedometer has a 220 mph on it.

Corvette’s ZR1 basic stats include a manual six-speed gearbox (race hardened), a high capacity dual-disc clutch or larger brake calipers. The design is great, with a raised carbon-fiber hood and carbon fiber panels prominent inside on the fenders, the roof and front splitter. Consider 19-inch or 20-inch chrome wheels and a dark color for the American SuperCar and it’s looking furious.

Rumors say that Bugatti is going to come with a special edition of the Veyron at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show. They’ve teamed up with the French saddle maker Hermès to bring back the relationship between Emile Hermès and Ettore Bugatti from the `20s. Considering all these I’d bet my horses that it’s going to be come with a modified interior designed by the Paris based company and some minor exterior mods.

audi_Quattrol.jpg

Audi officially revealed the new Audi Metroproject Quattro, a design study for the forthcoming Audi A1 as the German auto maker ventures into the sub-compact segment.

The Audi Metroproject Quattro is powered 1.4 liter TFSI engine that produces a total of 150 horsepower mated with a S-tronic Direct Shift Gearbox. Working as a hybrid, a 41 horsepower electric motor sits in the back allowing for a fuel-economy range of 48 mpg. This could mean that the A1 will most likely come with a hybrid variant in its lineup.

The Audi A1 is expected to come in four different variants including a three-door hatchback, a five-door and a coupe and convertible. Power is expected to come from a 1.2 liter engine that will produce up to 170 horsepower. Production on the Audi A1 is scheduled for 2009. Pictures and video after the jump

Chevrolet_HHR

General Motors is having trouble after discovering that one Chevrolet HHR could pose a head injury risk. After examining the problem closer it was discovered that vehicles not equipped with the optional “roof rail” airbags are not in compliance with crash standards. This is not going to be very good for GM since 181,516 models are affected. All those cars have been recalled in service and an energy-absorbent piece of plastic will be installed to the headliner. This will solve the problems.

ferarri HAMANN Ferrari 599 GTB with 673 bhp

Ferrari and HAMANN - a combination to set the pulse racing of all fans of Italian sports cars. The vehicle tuning specialist from Laupheim, Germany, has various new details and a power boost up its sleeve for the latest model from the Maranello stable. The power is produced by fitting an HAMANN high-performance sports header (export only), including racing catalytic converters, to generate an extra 39 kW/53 bhp. This takes the peak power output of this 6 l V12 engine, already familiar to us from the Ferrari Enzo, up to a majestic 673 bhp. You will rarely encounter more power than this on the open road. As a result, HAMANN has reduced the power-to-weight ratio from 2.5 to 2.3 kg per bhp.

To ensure that everyone knows that the King of the Road is about to arrive, HAMANN fits a sports rear muffler (export only) with 90 mm tailpipes both right and left. Needless to say, the rear silencer is made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel and generates an even more awe-inspiring sound than its series production counterpart in the series production version, the twelve-cylinder Berlinetta already sports a captivatingly and delicately swung body. HAMANN adds a few new touches of its own to this body designed by star designer Pininfarina. For instance, HAMANN styles the “face” of this front mid-engined sports car with a spoiler, which generates greater downforce on the front axle. To match this perfectly fitting component, which blends harmoniously into the vehicle styling, HAMANN also offers side sill panels, lending the 599 GTB a significantly more muscular appearance. The roof is adorned with a further spoiler, which in turn guides the air to an extravagantly designed rear wing. The latter generates downforce on the rear axle and stabilizes the Ferrari at high speeds.

Since the 599 GTB is conceptually a race car for the road, HAMANN decided to equip the rear end of this Italian muscle car with a three-piece diffuser that matches the rest of the technology. In conjunction with the rear wing, and true to the principle of “a beautiful rear can also endear”, the HAMANN aerodynamics tuning suite shows its best side. In fact, the 599 GTB tuned and styled the HAMANN way is truly a sight to behold from all sides.

HAMANN lands a perfect hit with the aerodynamics, which do nothing to disrupt the original design, but lend added impact to a number of details in striking style. Batman would certainly choose the HAMANN Ferrari 599 GTB as the car he drives to work in. All aerodynamic components are available in fiber glass or Carbon-Kevlar.

HAMANN has opted for its own creation for the rims, called “Edition Race”. This three-piece, ultra-light, forged rim in a cross-spoke design and a black spider is notable for its nine main branching spokes each of which splits into two further spokes. In addition to the exciting design, the titanium wheel bolts are a particularly eye-catching feature. The stylish appearance is topped off by the mirror-finished rim flange. Needless to say, HAMANN also offers the wheels as complete sets.

Typical wheel/tire combination: front 9.0 J x 21 / rear 12.0 J x 21 - 245/30 ZR 21 / 345/25 ZR21

On the inside, an exclusive set of floor mats in black lend the cockpit of this Ferrari a cozier touch. And of course HAMANN will gladly customize any 599 GTB to suit a customer’s own individual needs. Extravagant leather upholsteries in various colors are available, as are extensive multimedia conversions featuring a DVD player, TV reception and a PlayStation.

Volkswagen_Scirocco_thumb

More details are popping out about the new Volkswagen Scirocco - the lightweight sport car - that we will get to see during the International Motor Show in Geneva. It uses a 1.4-liter TSI engine that develops 122 hp while there is a TDI version, too, works on a seven-speed DSG transmission automatic and semi-automatic. ESP is a standard on VW Scirocco.

About the interior there are not many details other than some “body-hugging sport seats” or a panoramic roof to watch the sky. We’ll know more next month.

Rolls_Royce_Phantom_Coupe_picture

Ladies and gents who have the cache to buy a Rolls-Royce or for those that just enjoy seeing one, I’ve just heard that The new Phantom Coupe is going to be available in Geneva, next month at the Internation Auto Show. Rolls-Royce just made an official announcement and gave us some pictures of the nearly-all-aluminum to drool on.

Not sure if my ramblings about the design are worth because you can see for yourself but the fact that under the hood there are 453 little horses coming out from the 6.75-liter V12 engine that has 530 lb-ft of torque, is something that should be taken into consideration. The fact that it goes 0 to 60mph in 5.6 seconds is nothing to forget about.

The new Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe comes with a stiffer rear dampers, a thicker anti-roll bar, a better steering wheel (feels better they say) and a great “SPORT” button on the wheel that you may find useful if you wanna race: push it and it holds the gear longer, the pedal response is quicker.

I will let you see more pictures and see for yourself.

hight risk driverHish Risk Drivers

Insurance companies have a definition of the term "high risk" driver. A "high risk" driver is a category of drivers who do not meet the eligibility requirements established preferred auto insurance companies. Auto accidents, multiple tickets (speeding and/or reckless driving) or serious offenses like DUI on your driving record signify to the auto insurance company that you are a high risk to insure. Additional risk factors include your credit history, lack of continuous auto insurance coverage, and personal profile.

If you have been involved in several accidents or have had multiple speeding tickets within two to three years, these incidents will negatively affect your record even if they were not at fault in the accidents. You can also be labeled a "high risk" driver just by the number of speeding tickets you have received. If you are designated a "high risk" driver, there are several steps you can take.

Get out of the "high risk" category

This seems like common sense, but unless you want to continue paying higher auto insurance premiums, you must work toward getting yourself reclassified. Most insurance companies only consider the last three years of your driving record to determine your status and premium. Avoid congested areas whenever possible, and be sure to slow down in reduced speed zones. You need to be aware of your surroundings and never speed, and you will be on your way to a successful reduction in your rates. It also helps to drive a domestic vehicle. If you are driving a sports car or luxury vehicle, you are paying much more than someone who drives a family sedan or compact hatchback plus adding on your high risk premium. Consider what you drive and how it relates to your auto insurance premiums.

"High risk" auto insurance coverage

Some insurance agents specialize in offering policies to those with active driving records and/or sports car enthusiasts. However, you should expect to pay much premiums to match your "high risk" status. Statistics have demonstrated that insurance companies lose more money insuring people with bad driving records or sports cars for the higher coverage pay outs. Be upfront with your insurance agent about your driving record. The agencies that work with "high risk" drivers know how to find you the best deal for what car insurance is available to you. Also compare as many quotes as you can, each insurance company will view your driving record differently.

State assigned risk

Even if the high risk insurance agents will not write you a policy, every state has some kind of program that helps the"High risk" drivers get insured by entering the states shared pool. Your "High risk" status is "shared" among all the auto insurance companies in this pooled market. If you are forced to buy auto insurance from the shared pool, the premiums are much higher than standard car insurance premiums and it typically covers only liability insurance. You must meet the laws requirement of having liability insurance. If you cannot find an insurance agent who can work with you through the state pooled market, each state has an insurance commission that can provide information.

Here's some basic advice, plus 22 tips to help you protect yourself and get the best value for the money you spend on automobile coverage.

Your car insurance rates are based on a few factors you can't readily change -- your sex, age, marital status and where you live -- and many that you can -- your credit scores, what you drive, how well you drive and how much coverage you buy.

Here's how to get the best deal.

First, let's review the basics. Details vary from state to state. (See "Shopping for auto insurance.")

* Liability insurance pays for injuries and property damage caused by a crash if an insurance adjuster determines you were at fault. It does not cover your injuries or those of other people on your policy, or damage to your vehicle. State minimum requirements provide inadequate protection. Buy no less than $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident and $50,000 for property damage, or no less than $300,000 if your policy has a single limit. You are personally liable for claims that exceed your coverage, so buy even more if you can, and consider an umbrella policy.

* Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection covers injuries to the occupants of your car -- and property damage in some states -- if the other driver has no insurance or too little.

* Collision insurance pays for damage to your vehicle in an accident. If your car is totaled, you'll get what the insurer considers the pre-crash market value of your car, minus your deductible. To get a general idea of what that may be, check the Kelley Blue Book private-party price or visit the Web site of the National Automobile Dealers Association. You can pay extra for replacement-cost coverage for newer cars.

* Comprehensive insurance covers theft of your vehicle and noncollision damage to your car, as well as animal collisions. You may be eligible for lower rates if your vehicle has anti-theft and tracking devices.

* Medical or personal-injury protection provides coverage for you and your passengers, regardless of fault. You may not need this insurance if you have good health insurance.

* Twelve states have no-fault insurance, which generally covers the insured person's injuries and property damage no matter who is at fault.

* Consider gap insurance if you owe more on your car than it's worth.

Reduce your rates
The company you select and the coverage you buy can greatly reduce your rates.

* Shop around. Check rates online at InsWeb.com, call companies, and consult an agent through the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America. Rates vary greatly depending on a company's operating expenses, history of claims and formulas for setting premiums. Check a company's financial status and consumer record. The last thing you need is to go cheap and then find it's all but impossible to file a claim.

* Increase your deductibles on comprehensive and collision coverage to an amount you can cover out of pocket.

* Consider dropping both if you own your vehicle outright and the combined annual cost for that coverage is more than 10% of what you would get if you car were totaled. (See "Dump the insurance on your clunker.")

* Ask your insurer about all available special discounts.

* If you're switching insurance companies, do it in writing. Your credit scores will suffer if you're canceled for nonpayment.

Control yourself
Your behavior on and off the road has a bearing on your rates.

* Pay all bills on time. Your premiums are based in part on your credit scores or an insurance risk score based on your credit reports. (See "The new math of car insurance.") TransUnion's TrueCredit will provide your auto insurance risk score for $9.95.

* Drive defensively, and avoid distractions such as text messaging or talking on a cell phone. One speeding ticket may not raise your rates, but an accident you caused probably would -- generally by 40% of the company's base rate.

* Don't drink and drive. (See "DUI: The $10,000 ride home.")

* Don't lend out your car. If your friend wrecks it, your rates will go up. If your uninsured friend wrecks your car, you'll be liable for claims exceeding your policy.

The type of vehicle you drive affects your rates.

* Check the cost of insuring that sports car before you buy it. You'll pay higher premiums for a vehicle with higher collision-damage costs or that's attractive to thieves. Use MSN Money's comparison tool. And no, it doesn't cost more to insure a red car.

* High-tech items are more expensive to replace after a crash. (See "High-tech cars mean high-priced repairs.")

The deal on discounts
Factors such as age, how much you drive, where you live and, sometimes, what you do for a living affect insurance premiums. You can take some steps to get a better rate.

* If you get married, you'll get a discount and benefit from combining policies. (See "Paying too much for car insurance?")

* People 55 and older get a discount for taking a driving class.

* Adding your newly licensed teen to your policy will increase your premiums 50% to 200%. One way to reduce costs: Buy a beater and list your child as the driver. Teen drivers can get discounts for drivers ed courses or good grades. (See "Cut the cost of insuring your teen driver.")

* You may get a discount if your child attends college away from home.

If you wreck your car
If you've been in a collision, tell your insurance company for your own protection, even if injuries are not readily apparent. Informing the company doesn't mean you're filing a claim.

* If you disagree with the value assigned to your totaled vehicle, provide quotes from local dealers and proof that your vehicle was well-maintained. (See "12 secrets your car insurer won't tell you.") Still unsatisfied? Your options are mediation, arbitration and, finally, a lawsuit.

* Twenty-eight states require insurance companies to pay the sales tax on a replacement vehicle, based on the settlement value of your totaled car. Request it, as well as registration and title fees, wherever you live.

* In 14 states you can get payment for the "diminished value" of your damaged car.

* If the driver at fault in a crash is uninsured, consider "stacking" or collecting on all of your policies that have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage to fully cover the damage, unless state law prohibits it.

* Body shops may be tempted to cut corners to meet insurance companies' pricing requirements. Check Assured Performance Collision Care for qualified repair shops. (See "7 things auto-body shops won't tell you.")

* If you cause an accident, does your policy require you to pay the difference between generic and original-equipment manufacturer parts? If someone else caused the accident, request original-equipment parts for your repairs.

Some companies will cut your bill if you're an engineer or a teacher. Multi-vehicle and Web discounts are available, too, if you shop a little.

just when you thought you'd taken advantage of every discount and shrunk your auto insurance premium to its tiniest, auto insurers are offering more ways to make your bill smaller, and all you have to do is be yourself.

Almost every insurance company gives you a discount if you've had no accidents or tickets in the last three to five years, or if you buy a homeowners or renters insurance policy with the same company (multiline discount), insure more than one car on your auto insurance policy (multivehicle discount), or own a car that is equipped with air bags. But some companies will also reward you for your profession, your age, and using the Internet.

That college degree is worth something

21st Century Group has found that drivers with degrees in engineering are lower risks than other drivers. If you have a bachelor's degree in any number of engineering or science-related fields — biochemistry, mathematics, or mechanical engineering, for example — you can get a discount on your auto insurance premium if you buy from them.

21st Century sells auto insurance in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, and offers the "engineering and scientist" discount in all of those states. If you're a scientist or an engineer with a good driving record, you can save between 10 and 30 percent on the company's base rate, according to Ric Hill, vice president of corporate relations.

A base rate is the average amount of claims paid plus the insurance company's claims-processing fee. For example, if the company's base rate is $400, you could save between $40 and $120.

"Our company's founder saw that educators, scientists, and engineers have lots of characteristics that seem to show that they're the best drivers," says Hill. "Engineers, for example, being accustomed to dealing with fine details, are somewhat meticulous, which means they take good care of their automobiles." 21st Century found that the same holds true for teachers and other scientists.

Teachers deserve a break

Horace Mann Insurance Co. (which sells auto insurance in every state except Hawaii and New Jersey) offers discounts to teachers who belong to state education associations or the National Education Association (NEA). Horace Mann's discounts start at around 8 percent, and are based on the assumptions the company has about teachers: They have a stable occupation, stable employment, and they understand they are under scrutiny by the community.

The discounts are available through Horace Mann or one of its two subsidiaries — Allegiance Insurance Co. or Teachers Insurance Co. In addition to Hawaii, New Jersey, and New York, the discounts are not available in Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, and Washington D.C.

The discount program for teachers who are state association or NEA members started about 15 years ago. Although the auto insurance discounts aren't enough to cover annual association dues, Horace Mann estimates that the average household (two cars) and the average insurance discount will pay for about 50 percent of an association's average dues.

21st Century also offers teachers a break on car insurance premiums, but only if you're certified by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, or if you are a full-time college or university professor. Savings for this program range from 10 percent to 30 percent on the company's base rate.

Save all you can save in the Army

GEICO offers a 2 percent to 15 percent discount to active and retired members of the military. The military discount is available in all states except Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas. GEICO, which stands for, Government Employees Insurance COrporation, has always taken pride in serving U.S. military personnel and their families.

Another benefit of buying your auto insurance with GEICO if you're in the military is your ability to drop all coverages but comprehensive if you're shipped overseas. "Most armed service personnel will put their vehicles in storage and we allow them to drop their liability and other coverages while they're out of the country," says Richard Kidd, a retired Sgt. Mjr. of the Army and assistant vice president for military services at GEICO. Additionally, if Uncle Sam sends you to a country in which the government offers hostile-fire pay, GEICO will knock 25 percent off your comprehensive bill while your car is in storage.

Drive toward the discounts in your golden years

Remember when a nickel was worth a dime? If so, you're probably eligible for some deep discounts on your auto insurance. The Hartford's AARP Auto Insurance Program offers AARP members the chance to chop their auto insurance bills by as much as 45 percent.

The AARP program offers drivers a 20 to 25 percent (up to $300 per year) discount for insuring multiple cars on one policy, a 10 percent discount for holding both a homeowners and auto insurance policy with The Hartford, and 5 percent savings for staying with the company for more than five years and not having any violations on your driving record.

The Hartford also guarantees that drivers who buy auto insurance through the AARP program will never have their policies canceled except for nonpayment of premium, DUI conviction, or loss of license.

Have Internet, can save

Eligible drivers can save up to 10% on certain MetLife Auto policy coverages when they successfully complete courses, such as one offered by the National Safety Council (NSC).

As a MetLife Auto & Home customer, you can purchase the NSC Driver Safety Course Kit, which includes a 54-minute training video or CD-ROM, a workbook, and an open-book test answer sheet, plus processing. Or, you can take the entire course and exam on the Internet for the same total cost, about $34.95, without ever leaving home. These VHS, CD-ROM and Internet home study Driver Safety Courses are adapted from NSC’s Defensive Driving Courses, arguably the world’s standard of excellence in driver improvement.

Other eligible drivers in your household, on your MetLife Auto policy, can also earn the discount by ordering additional certification workbooks and by successfully completing the course.

Answer 1:
Never what you owe or what it will cost you to replace it. So the answer to the problem is GAP insurance! Small amount to pay for peace of mind that pays you the difference between loan/cost and adjusters appraisals, (which start at the bottom, wholesale)The haggling is what the adjuster is paid to do, not to be fair, but to save the insurance company the most they can, they are not your pals! Wife rear ended, she's ok totalled car retail $20,000, offered $15,500

Answer 2:
You should get ACV (actual cash value)

Do your homework before settling with the adjuster. Check newspaper ads, dealers etc., to see what a car like yours, similar condition and like mileage is worth in your area. Have 3 or 4 bona-fide local examples to take with you and show the adjuster.

A new car should not be a problem unless you have over-financed.

Some folks borrow more than the vehicle is worth to pay off an old one and you are what is termed to be "upside-down", meaning you owe more on the vehicle than its worth. If this is your situation and the car is totalled, you will be paid off the value of the vehicle but not what you over-financed.

Answer 3:
Having been in this situation in WVa, the insurance people have a standrd which is used. Usually it involves the the NADA book value. The low value - a certain amount if the the engine milege is 100,000 or more = settlement. My experiance was not good as I did not receive enough to pay the vehicle loan principle, even though the loan was for less that the purchase price.

Answer 4:
Ok. So I have just been told by the Claims Agent that my car it totaled. In my case to repair the damage would cost $3500. The value of my vehicle was only $4200. If it cost more than 70% of the total car value to fix, it is considered totaled.

So now I have two things to do. 1)Check the value of my car for myself. 2) Locate what it would cost to replace my exact car in the market today.

For the first item I will use these three websites and take the best results to use as a basis for determining what I will expect to get paid from my Insurance Agency. www.kbb.com, www.edmunds.com, and www.nada.com. Be sure to include your milage and all your vehicle features before caculating a price with these sites. Also, always use the RETAIL price that they generate because that is what you will have to pay to replace your car in the open market.

The second item takes a little more leg work. But thankfully for the internet this process is now a lot easier. Use the website www.autotrader.com. This will allow you to locate your specific car to see what people are actually selling it for. Most often is will be selling for more money than what your first step revealed.

Note: If you are having trouble locating a vehicle within 200 miles of where you live, then try and find a similar replacement vehicle you are interested and use that as your leverage.

I have been told that by law, your insurance company is only require to pay out the wholesale price of the vehicle. This is usually at least half of what the blue book value is. So don't get your insurance company mad at you, but also stick to your guns when trying to get more money to replace or fix your vehicle!

# Honda Odyssey
# Buick Park Avenue
# Pontiac Montana
# Mercury Grand Marquis
# Buick Century
# Chevrolet Venture

The insurers go by credit scoring, loss avergaes, etc. not just by the car you drive, of course.

Answer :
For liability only, it depends mostly on the driver an possibly a little bit on how much damage the car will do. (motorcycles cheap, SUV's expensive)

For full coverage it is a combination of how much it usually cost to repair it and how likely it will be to get in an at fault accident.

cadilacs are expensive to repair, fords are inexpensive

volvos are driven responsibly, mustangs are always getting to wrecks.

The cheapest to insure will be a sensible, afordable, small sedan with the most safety features and the cheapest engine, trim, features etc..

hope it helps

What's the New?
Unlike many other new cars that usually replace an existing model, the Latio is a new name to Nissan. While we are told that it is not a direct replacement to the long-serving Sunny (a new model is planned) the Latio, which is meant to sit just below the well-known sedan, comfortably fills its shoes for now.

Aside from being similar in size to the current Sunny or Sentra, it has a list of standard features that would embarrass many more expensive self-proclaimed luxury cars. Take its intelligent key system for example, like the Keyless Go system first seen on the more expensive Mercedes-Benz models, Nissan's equivalent works in much the same way, letting the driver lock and unlock the doors or even start the engine without needing to fish the key from a pocket or handbag.

This keyless system works beautifully and is thoroughly idiot proof. We tried to 'fool' system by trying to lock the car with the key still in it. But in every one of our 'scenarios' the Latio kept its windscreen intact by refusing to lock us out.

Other notable features on Nissan's compact family car include a 'Clean Ion' climate control air-conditioning system that apparently charges the cooled cabin air with negative ions which is supposed to be good for you.

All but the base model also get upholstery in a combination of leather and suede-like Alcantara which not only feels good but keeps its occupants from sliding in theirs seats if the driver gets too enthusiastic in his driving.

Although the Latio scores highly on the feature count, its exterior design leaves something to be desired. Opt for the hatchback variant, the Latio Sport however, and the car's proportions are much better resolved with a more contemporary stance. With the same features as the sedan, the Sport manages to offer more style, without forsaking any of its substance.

How It Performs
Animated by a 1.5-litre engine, the Latio is available with either a five-speed manual or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). With the latter, no one expects the Latio to be a sports car but in reality is deceptively spritely as its superb noise insulation and refinement does a good job of hiding its surprising pace.

Approach three-figure speeds and the Latio Sport turns in a much better composed ride than the sedan as it feels more stable in places where its sibling started to 'float'.

How It Stacks Up
By now you might be able to tell that we'd pick the Latio Sport over the sedan anytime. This choice is also made easier knowing that it more than makes up for the obvious deficit in boot space with a rear bench that slides fore and aft to offer more legroom or cargo space. For good measure the rear backrests also split and fold in a 60:40 ratio for longer loads.

With this versatility, generous appointment, decent styling - and significantly - keen pricing, it's easy to see why we're tempted to call this small car the

Comprehensive motor insurance policies purchased in the direct market are at the most expensive they have been in the past two years, according to Experian.

Research conducted in the process of establishing the information analyst's Motor Insurance Benchmark, revealed that the average direct market quote for comprehensive motor insurance rose by 7.9 per cent in May 2007 compared with the same period last year.

The study also showed that while intermediary market policies are at the highest in the last 11 months, year on year they have dropped 3.7 per cent, making them cheaper than their direct equivalents.

An average May 2007 premium from a direct insurer cost £560 compared to £529 for cover in the intermediary market, which now quotes premiums on average 5.5 per cent lower.

Meanwhile, third party, fire and theft premiums are higher in both markets than comprehensive because they are mainly taken out by younger drivers with low excesses.

During the just concluded 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon, it seems obvious that the Japanese tuners on stand were showing their expertise on the new generations of 'hot' cars namely Nissan's GT-R, Mitsubishi's EVO X and the latest Subaru Impreza's. It was like a sea of these cars fitted with just about their latest enhancements that they could develop in time for the show that has been compared very much to the American SEMA show.

While most of these tuners with some very reputable ones focused on these cars, there were also others with manufacturer backings who presented some of their enhancements wonders on different makes. Take for instance Mugen who have very long relationship with Honda. (Through family relationship, of course)

At the show, Mugen displayed their version of the highly acclaimed JDM Honda Civic Type R to the delight of most visitors including us. Based on the already potent car which they upped the ante again with their version called the Honda Civic Mugen RR, at the show the tuner displayed another version which they called the Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec.

The innovative RR Concept is an experimental model armed with cutting edge technologies. Based on the Mugen RR, the Experimental Spec. has a further weight reduction with the chassis strengthen, higher engine output with better brake performance all designed to add further overall performance.

With regards to the bodywork, the Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec. has a front fender which is made out of carbon and this also includes the purpose design front bumper. The front bumper which also incorporates some functional lip also has a redesigned layout for the brake duct which results in the relocation of the fog lights. With the usage of an all aluminium hood (bonnet), Mugen explains that this is all part of optimizing the weight balance between the front and the back sections of the car. This explains the usage of more carbon composite materials on the rear section where the oversize fully adjustable wing is found and this part work in sync with the rear under spoiler and the diffuser.
Further weight reduction program includes the use of titanium exhaust manifold and this even goes on in the interior. Step inside the Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec. and you will be greeted with a host of carbon fibre materials. In fact the whole passenger compartment feels like it's been covered entirely by carbon fibre which hides neatly the reinforcement equipment that adds more chassis rigidity and perhaps safety to the occupants of the car.

As the Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec. is to provide more focus driving criteria especially during spirited driving, the normal interior switches has been relocated which embodies the concept while the tachometer has been repositioned to the top of the dashboard compared to a regular Civic. Drivers too would appreciate the carbon composite shell RECARO semi-bucket seats again part of the weight saving parts and the quick shifting gear lever.

The Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec. feature a tuned engine with the capacity increased to 2.2 litre. Based on the K20A engine, the intake and outlet has been optimized to bring about further increase in the power department, the engine now produces a healthy 260PS at a screaming 8,200rpm. Maximum torque is 235Nm at 6,000rpm and this would give you a hint that this car is all about spirited driving; after all it’s what the car was created for.
With the added power it’s only natural that the Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec. gets a further brake upgrade. The front now sports a 6-pot brake system while at the rear there's a 2-pot system.

And to further determine that the car remains fine while driving, Mugen has equipped the car with an i-TCMS which is an intelligent-Tire Condition Monitoring System that monitors the tire air pressure and temperature in real time. No doubt this item is a confidence booster especially during fast driving and to add that you can also adjust the damping force from the cockpit while driving. Aided by the special Bridgestone Potenza RE070 225/40R18 tyres it would definitely increase grip especially coming into your favorite corners.
Mugen has once again created a true 'drivers' car with this Honda Civic Mugen RR Experimental Spec.. With the original Mugen RR sold within minutes after it was launch, we're sure their latest version would easily be up for grabs swiftly too. But let's hope that the components would be available to enthusiast who already has the JDM Civic Type R. Perhaps this would no doubt give us enthusiast some ideas on creating a more potent track day focus car.

While Honda goes with the philosophy of 'Power of Dreams', we're sure we couldn't agree more with Mugen's which is ' The Dream Never Ends', creating more potent cars to the delights of enthusiast!

General Motors Corp. announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 Pontiac Solstice. They stated that certain passenger vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard NO. 207, “Seating systems” and standard NO. 210 “Seat belt assembly anchorages”. Honda, maker of quality Toyota parts like like Honda tie rods has unveiled its S2000 at the recently concluded 2007 Tokyo Auto Show (January 12-14). The Honda S2000 was modified by Mugen to create the Open-Top Pure Sport Concept. The car looks as if it was designed for motorsport fans. The S2000 has an interior fitted with black/red Mugen bucket seats while for its body a unique set was placed to give the car a sportier look but in the process maintained the car's famous smooth lines. The use of impressive exhausts at the back is another proof of the potential of this car; unfortunately no HP or torque figures are available for the S2000 though.

S2000 a Classic Roadster

Before it was modified by Mugen, the Honda S2000 was considered to be a classic roadster-style sports car and a performance icon for the Honda brand. The S2000 combines uncompromising racetrack performance with practicality. Honda has built the S2000 basing on that premise.

Further improvements were made for the S2000 including the addition of electronic DBW or Drive-by-Wire Throttle System™, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®), maintenance minder system, standard headrest speakers, an outside temperature gauge, revised seat and console designs, a unique new alloy wheel design plus the addition of Laguna Blue Pearl as an exterior color.

According to John Mendel Senior Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., ""Never content to leave well-enough alone, we're committed to maintaining the S2000's performance and technological leadership in its segment. It's a car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, and it represents the ultimate expression of the fun-to-drive characteristic found in all Honda vehicles."

The S2000 is powered by 2.2-liter, DOHC, VTEC™ (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) 4-cylinder engine that remains to be the pinnacle of naturally aspirated performance technology revving 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. To complement the engine's output is a compact, longitudinally mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and short throws.

Also new in S2000 is Honda's Vehicle Stability Assist system which makes it more stable and easier to control especially during street driving or in inclement weather conditions. VSA is working together with the Drive-by-Wire System to continuously monitor the yaw rate, steering input, throttle input as well as the braking pressure in order to determine if the car is following the intended path set by the driver.

Standard features of the S2000 include:
• Power retractable convertible top
• 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels
• Leather tirmmed seats
• High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps
• Aluminum hardtop
• XMO Satellite Radio
• Power windows
• Power door locks
• Keyless entry
• Outside temperature gauge
• Maintenance minder system

Mercedes Benz USA, LLC. announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 GLX164. They stated that on certain passenger vehicles equipped wit diesel engines, the crankshaft sensor could fail due to a separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor.

When this happens, the vehicle may loose power rather than enter a limp home mode. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. The recall is expected to begin during Febuary 2008. Owners may contact Mercedes Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
